About Us

Generation Groove is a community band based in Haxby, North Yorkshire.

Our Musical Director is Diane Beal.

We rehearse every Thursday at the Memorial Hall in The Village.

Within the Generation Groove family we now have four bands so we can offer a fun and friendly playing experience for every level. At entry level, we have our Academy Band for absolute beginners which meets at the Memorial Hall on a Wednesday evening. Players here will be encouraged to build on their tuition by playing in a small group with a view to moving on to our Beginners band, when they feel confident to do so.

Our beginners band New Generation rehearse from 5.30pm to 6.15pm and is open to any brass or woodwind players who have about an octave range on their instrument and can read music or more advanced player that have never played in a band before.

Our middle band Getting In The Groove is a very lively band and rehearses from 6.30pm till 7.30pm. Woodwind and Brass players of approximately grade 3-5 standard are very welcome to join.

Our main band Generation Groove rehearses from 7.45pm till 9.45pm. Membership is now by application to the Musical Director. We are currently looking for brass players and an oboe players but other woodwind players will be considered. We have all kinds of woodwind and brass players within the bands as well as bass guitar, keyboards and drums.

Generation Groove will be celebrated its 21st birthday in 2023 and has come a long way from its very first meeting on the 1st August 2002 under a working title of Cottage Harmony. We began with just six members and rapidly grew over the next few weeks to over 21 players. In just four months we had grown to over forty members in the band many of who had never played in a band before.

We rely totally on subscriptions and donations and are a non profit making organisation. All proceeds from our concerts will be reinvested back into the band providing items such as music, music stands and other related equipment the band will need in order to continue these concerts.
